City of Novi
Story
The City of Novi has received more than $1.7 million from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. Grants have funded: the acquisition of 100 acres for the creation of a Novi Nature Area; the purchase of 51 acres containing 5,200 feet of frontage on the Middle Rouge River, Village Wood Lake, and wetlands; the acquisition of 16 acres of wooded wetland; the construction of a trailhead for a regional pathway; and the creation of an accessible waterfront park with 835 feet of naturalized shoreline.
Novi also received $385,000 in 2014 recommended funding to acquire 10 acres of potential parkland on the City’s western border for public recreational use.
“Novi is proud to be a recipient of a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant. As in the past, these valuable funds will help purchase desirable parkland for our community and business members to enjoy for years to come. We are fortunate to have such wonderful state partners who recognize the vital role such acquisitions play in continuing to place Novi on the map when it comes to providing high quality of life.”
– Bob Gatt, Mayor, City of Novi
“The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund helps ensure that we preserve and build upon the treasure that is Novi’s parks, open spaces, and recreation programming in order to meet the needs of our current citizens and future generations.”
– Jeffrey Muck, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Director, City of Novi
